General Eligibility Requirements
Relationship Status
You must be married to or in a de facto relationship with an eligible sponsor. If married, the marriage must be legally valid under Australian law. For the case of a De facto relationship, you and your partner must have a mutual commitment to a shared life to the exclusion of all others. Furthermore your relationship must be genuine and continuing, and you must live together or not live separately and apart on a permanent basis. Generally, the de facto relationship must have existed for at least 12 months immediately before applying.
Sponsorship Requirements
Your partner must be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen. The sponsor generally must be over 18 years of age. There are limitations on how many times a person can sponsor a partner.
Genuine And Continuing Relationship
You must provide evidence that your relationship is genuine and continuing.
